There is also a new POI directory. It works with outside POI as well, and this will be beneficial to folks who use adds on such as EQ2 Plat. You will be able to drop custom POI into your map directory and have them appear. Your POI will also blink on the main map, and set a waypoint while in the same zone.
To compliment the new functionality, you can also search the map. There is a wildcard function as well so you can either check specifically for a merchant or just search for shops in general and have them appear before you.
