For inspiration bonuses, I usually tip from 5,000 credits to 100,000 credits depending on: the amount of credits I currently have, if the entertainer is talkative and friendly, and if they are in the same faction as me. If I have a lot of credits to spend, they are going to get a big tip. For image designing I always pay at least 10,000 credits. If I am getting a lot changed, and make them go through quite a few options, I pay more. Remember, they can not do combat missions, or get high level loot for credits. The only method of getting credits is to do entertainer missions, which provide them with 2k credits every 10 minutes if they are not in a group.
Smugglers will have their own rate. On my server, faction goes for about 120-150 credits per faction point. That may seem like quite a bit, but they have to pay in order to get the faction. They really make a very small profit. Also, make sure you buy from a colonel! Since the exchange rate is the cheapest at the highest level of faction, it only makes sense to buy from Colonels.
